The Mini Staycation
I know, I know – we’re a group travel app, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate a good solo trip every now and then. Travel, whether solo or with a group, is always at the heart of Let’s Jetty. For this Valentine’s Day, whether you’re in a relationship or single, I hope you indulge in a fun getaway to recharge and reconnect with yourself.
As a single lady, I’ve developed a fun Valentine’s Day tradition: The Mini Staycation. I pack the car and take my fur baby, Ruckus, on a fun road trip. Luckily, I’m out west, where there are stunning destinations within 4 hours in any direction of Salt Lake City.
Here are some of my favorite Mini Staycations, what my big plans are this year, and some suggestions to treat yo self wherever you are in the world.
The Yurt
A few years ago, I rented a yurt outside of Cedar City. This yurt was DOPE. I drove in late, completely unaware of my surroundings. I woke up to miles and miles and MILES of desert land. I made some coffee and a skillet brunch. Ruckus roamed wherever his little heart desired, and I got lost in Desert Solitaire. Eventually, I got bored, so we went on a little hike. The desert weather in February is pretty great, 50ish and sunny. I felt my seasonal depression slip away with every step. After I got back, I made dinner, treated myself to a bougie wine, and did some night photography with Ruckus.
The Mountain Town
The following year, I spent a fun weekend in Bozeman at the RSVP Motel, where you’re greeted with a glass of champagne and a silk robe. I treated myself to brunch at Stuffed Crepes and Waffles, took a stroll on Main Street, and stopped at the Country Bookshelf for some quality browsing. If you’re one of those people who comes alive at Barnes & Noble, you’ll love this shop. They have a super friendly staff, fun obscure finds, and cool local chachkis. Next, I enjoyed a delicious whiskey tasting at Bozeman Spirits, followed by dinner at Urban Kitchen, and finally visited a friend’s house to play board games and catch up over Montucky cold snacks. (I never said you had to be alone).
2024 Mini Staycation: Maple Grove Hot Springs
Now I bet you’re wondering where I’ll be this year. I’ve decided to stay local and check out the Maple Grove Hot Springs. Right on the border of Utah and Idaho sits this charming retreat. Yoga, yurts, and communal dining. I plan on relaxing and doing absolutely nothing except indulging in my thoughts and surroundings.
But if you’re not into the yurt scene and looking for something more upscale, may I suggest the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird? And if you’re not in Salt Lake, here are a few ideas to inspire some self-love:
- Spa, literally any spa
- Sound bath
- Brunch
- Shopping
- Museums
- Get some fresh air
- Go skiing
- Workshops- pottery class, painting, writing
Ultimately, self love is about disconnecting from all of the noise in the world around you and reconnecting with yourself. So whatever you choose to do, I hope you feel a spark of joy and sense of lightness. Happy Valentine’s Day loves!
